Early Life and Background
Rajeev Chandrasekhar's journey into politics is rooted in his upbringing, characterized by a legacy of service and excellence. Born to Malayali parents in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Chandrasekhar was instilled with values of discipline and leadership from a young age. His father, M. K. Chandrasekhar, a distinguished Air Commodore in the Indian Air Force, played a significant role in shaping his son's sense of duty towards the nation.
Educational Pursuits and Entrepreneurial Ventures
Chandrasekhar's academic journey took him to various schools across India before he pursued electrical engineering at the prestigious Manipal Institute of Technology. Furthering his quest for knowledge, he obtained a master's degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
Returning to India in 1991, Chandrasekhar embarked on a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, joining the BPL Group. His visionary leadership led to the establishment of BPL Mobile in 1994, which grew into one of India's leading telecom giants under his stewardship.
Political Career
In 2006, Rajeev Chandrasekhar made his foray into politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, representing Karnataka, where he served with distinction. Chandrasekhar continued his political journey, winning re-election to the Rajya Sabha for a second term in 2009.
He played a significant role in the Karnataka state legislative assembly elections in 2012, supporting the BJP's campaign efforts. In 2014, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Bangalore South constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha, representing the BJP.
Throughout his tenure as an MP, Chandrasekhar remained an active voice in parliamentary debates, advocating for various issues concerning his constituents and the nation. In 2020, he was appointed as a BJP National Spokesperson, further solidifying his position within the party.
Current Role and Future Prospects
In 2021, Rajeev Chandrasekhar assumed important roles within the BJP, including serving as Puducherry election co-incharge and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as well as Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.
