Know Who Is Sharmishta Panoli, Instagram Influencer Arrested In Gurugram For Post On Operation Sindoor
Sharmishta Panoli, an Instagram influencer and law student at Pune's University, was arrested on Saturday for posting a controversial video post on social media. In the video, she criticized Bollywood actors for their silence on Operation Sindoor, a military operation initiated by India. The content quickly went viral, attracting severe criticism and numerous threatening messages from viewers. This led to Panoli deleting the video and issuing an apology, but not before catching the attention of law enforcement.
In response to her controversial post, Kolkata Police launched an investigation and filed a complaint against Panoli. Efforts to serve legal notices to her and her family were thwarted as reports emerged that she had distanced herself from her relatives. With the legal notices undelivered, the matter was escalated to a court, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Panoli. She was subsequently apprehended by Kolkata Police in Gurugram, Haryana, on a Friday night, marking a significant turn in the case.

Operation Sindoor, the subject of Panoli's contentious video, was a strategic military response by India following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists. The operation targeted terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, aiming to neutralize threats and prevent future attacks.
Upon her arrest, a police official disclosed to PTI that multiple attempts to contact Panoli and her family for legal proceedings had failed, leading to their disappearance. This necessitated the involvement of the court, which granted the arrest warrant enabling the police to take action.
This incident has not only highlighted the impact of social media on public discourse but also underscored the legal ramifications of posting content with communal overtones. Panoli's arrest serves as a reminder of the thin line between freedom of expression and the potential to incite discord through digital platforms.
