Tutor and Fiance Arrested for Murder of 17-Year-Old Student in Kanpur
Three people, including a tutor and her fiance, were arrested on Tuesday for strangling a 17-year-old class 10 student after abducting him. Investigation revealed that the boy was murdered before the ransom letter was delivered.
In a shocking incident, three individuals including a tutor and her fiancé were arrested on charges of abducting and murdering a 17-year-old student in the upscale Swaroop Nagar area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased has been identified as Khushagra Kanodia, who was studying in class 10.

The boy was reportedly kidnapped while he was en route to his coaching institute. The main accused Prabhat Shukla, who is also the fiancé of the victim's tutor, allegedly sent a ransom letter to the family post abduction. However, investigations revealed that Khushagra had already been killed before the delivery of this letter.
Communal Twist To Crime
In an attempt to mislead investigators and give a communal hue to the crime, Shukla included religious slogans in his ransom note along with demanding Rs 30 lakh for releasing Khushagra safely. CCTV footage obtained by police showed that Shukla was willingly followed by Khushagra from Swaroop Nagar to his home in Om Nagar, Fazalganj. He then left alone after spending twenty minutes inside while Khushagra never emerged.
Prompt Arrests Made By Police
Upon receiving information about the kidnapping from Khushagra's family and obtaining crucial evidence through CCTV footage showing Shukla leaving with victim’s scooty after changing its number plate; police swiftly apprehended him leading to his confession about committing this heinous crime. His accomplices Rachita Vats (the tutor) and another individual named Shiva Gupta were subsequently arrested as well.
Social Outrage Over Incident
This appalling incident sparked outrage among political circles too with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressing grave concern over the attempt to link this crime to a particular community and thereby mislead police. He stated that such trends were extremely dangerous for society and demanded strict action against it. Echoing his sentiments, senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Shekhar Dixit condemned the incident, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Ankur Saxena, spokesperson of Rashtriya Lok Dal’s UP unit also voiced similar concerns about the collapsing state of law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh.
In conclusion, this horrific incident underscores not only the need for stricter vigilance but also highlights how communal elements can be used as a smokescreen to divert attention from actual criminal activities. The quick response by police leading to arrests is commendable; however, it's imperative that justice is served swiftly to send out a strong message against such heinous crimes.
