Kannauj Railway Station Collapse: Three Labourers Critical, High-Level Investigation Launched
Three labourers sustained critical injuries when the linter roof of the under-construction Amrit Bharat Railway Station in Kannauj collapsed on Saturday.
Approximately 46 workers were trapped under the rubble, with 23 successfully evacuated. According to the police, 20 labourers have been admitted to the district hospital, and three critically injured individuals have been referred to PGI Lucknow. The Railways, however, reported that five workers were injured in the incident.

Upon learning of the collapse, UP Minister Aseem Arun arrived at the site and instructed officials to prioritize the rescue efforts and medical treatment of the injured. A total of 12 ambulances were deployed to transport the workers to nearby hospitals. The DIG from Kanpur and an NDRF team were also dispatched to assist in the rescue operations.
Railway sources revealed that a three-member high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee will include the Chief Engineer/Planning and Design, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager/Izzatnagar, and the Chief Security Commissioner/Railway Protection Force.
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party took to social media, criticizing the BJP government and former Kannauj MP Subrata Pathak for their claims about the state-of-the-art railway station, allegedly built at a cost of crores. The party pointed out that the Divisional Railway Manager had recently conducted a surprise inspection. The Samajwadi Party blamed corruption among BJP leaders for the incident, noting that the current Lok Sabha member from Kannauj is SP MP Dimple Yadav.
