Jharkhand Election Results 2024: INDIA Bloc Commands Lead, NDA Lags Behind
In the latest update from the Election Commission of India as of 10.40 am, the JMM-led Mahagathbandhan appears to be taking the lead in the Jharkhand Assembly election, having secured leads in 50 seats. This alliance, comprising Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress, RJD, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation), is inching closer to a majority in the state assembly. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is at the forefront with leads in 30 seats, followed by Congress with 14, RJD with five, and CPI(ML)(L) marking its presence in one seat.

On the other side, the BJP-led NDA is trailing with a lead in 28 seats. The BJP itself is ahead in 24 seats, while its allies AJSU Party, JD(U), and LJP(RV) have managed to secure leads in two and one seat each, respectively. Remarkably, the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM), a new entrant in the election fray, is leading in two constituencies, Jugsalai and Dumri. Additionally, an independent candidate is leading in the Panki seat, hinting at a diverse political landscape.
Counting of votes began at 8 am on Saturday for both the Jharkhand and Maharashtra Assembly Elections, alongside bypoll results from 15 states. This counting process is crucial as it will determine the political fate of 288 seats in Maharashtra and 81 in Jharkhand.
The Political Battle and Voter Sentiment
The political contest in Jharkhand was a direct faceoff between the JMM-led alliance and the BJP-led NDA. The first phase of polling, which covered 43 of the 81 Assembly seats, was conducted on November 13. Voter turnout this year was impressive, surpassing the 65 percent mark recorded in 2019 to reach over 68.45 percent. Exit polls had earlier suggested a close contest, with the NDA expected to secure between 42-47 seats and the JMM-led alliance forecasted to win 25-30 seats.
In light of the counting, Congress leader Rajesh Thakur expressed optimism regarding the emerging trends and anticipated an increase in their margin. He highlighted the party's promises, such as loan waivers for farmers and free electricity for 200 units, as key factors likely to influence the election outcome.
Thakur criticized the BJP's tactics, stating, "The trends are coming out well and the margins seem to be increasing continuously. Whether it is a matter of waiving the loans of farmers or providing free electricity for 200 units, the reward will now be visible in the result. BJP has tried again and again to do such politics, when necessary, they tried to loot the government's majority by sending the Chief Minister to jail. We have worked to eliminate all the efforts made by the BJP. Even if someone tries like this in the future, they will not be spared".
