Srinagar Police Initiates Action Against Social Media Misusers

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated action against nine individuals for allegedly misusing social media platforms to spread rumors and hateful content. The action comes after the authorities issued guidelines for social media users to contain communally sensitive content or promote terrorism and secessionism.

Srinagar, December 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated action against nine individuals for allegedly misusing social media platforms to spread rumors and hateful content. The move comes in response to the authorities issuing guidelines for social media users to curb the spread of communally sensitive content, terrorism, and secessionism.

Legal Action Initiated in Multiple Districts

Legal action has been taken against individuals in Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Ganderbal districts for uploading hateful and abusive content and spreading rumors on social media. In Anantnag, three individuals have been identified and action has been taken against them for uploading inflammatory and seditious videos.

Baramulla, Pulwama, and Budgam Take Action

The Baramulla Police have taken legal action against a provocateur identified as Bilal Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wani Mohalla Baliharan Pattan. In the Awantipora area of Pulwama district, Sheeraz Ahmed Beigh has been booked for uploading inflammatory and instigating content on social media. The Budgam police have also taken strict measures against individuals misusing social media platforms to spread rumors, with two troublemakers being presented before the magistrate.

Ganderbal Initiates Legal Proceedings

In Ganderbal, legal action has been initiated against two individuals, Waseem Mushtaq Malik and Aadil Ahmed Rather, for uploading and sharing hateful content on social media platforms. They were found involved in spreading hateful content, leading to legal action under the recently issued order of the District Magistrate.

Guidelines Issued to Curb Sensitive Content

The authorities in Kashmir have issued guidelines for social media users under CrPC Section 144 to contain the spread of communally sensitive content, terrorism, and secessionism. These guidelines were issued by all district administrations over the past week.

Police Warning and Appeal

Speaking to reporters in Bandipora, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi warned that anyone found promoting anti-national or terrorism-related narratives, intentionally or unintentionally, and disrupting peace and public order, will face stringent police action. He also appealed to families to monitor their children to prevent the unintentional spread of rumors on social media.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police's action against individuals misusing social media platforms highlights the importance of responsible social media usage. By taking strict measures to curb the spread of hateful content, rumors, and sensitive material, the authorities aim to maintain peace and public order in the region.
