Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Seeks Expedited Probe into Aligarh Lynching Incident
In a recent call to action, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a leading Muslim organisation, has pressed the Uttar Pradesh government for a swift investigation into a distressing incident of mob lynching that occurred in Aligarh, resulting in communal unrest. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, involved a 35-year-old man named Fareed, who was accused of theft by a mob in the Mamu Bhanja locality and subsequently attacked. Despite police intervention, Fareed sustained severe injuries and later died at Malkhan Singh Hospital.

The urgency of the matter was underscored by Maulana Mahmood Madani, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, who strongly condemned the acts of mob violence not only in Aligarh but also in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Madani's statement highlighted the barbarity of mob lynchings and their incompatibility with civilized society. He emphasized the need for the Uttar Pradesh government to not only expedite the investigation but also to ensure that justice is served promptly.
Furthermore, Madani advocated for the provision of necessary assistance and reasonable compensation to the bereaved family of Fareed. He called upon all communities to maintain peace and seek justice through legal avenues, stressing the importance of unity and legal recourse in preventing such divisive incidents.
In a show of solidarity and support, a delegation from the Jamiat district unit, along with representatives from other civil organisations, visited Fareed's family to offer their condolences. This gesture reflects the community's collective grief and its commitment to standing against violence.
The incident reportedly unfolded as Fareed was returning home from work on Tuesday night. He was surrounded and assaulted by some locals over suspicions of theft, according to a complaint filed by his family. Superintendent of Police City M Shekhar Pathak noted that the situation escalated as news of the attack spread, leading to a large gathering at the hospital demanding swift action against those responsible.
The police have since arrested six individuals connected to the attack and have identified seven people as part of the mob responsible for Fareed's death. This case has not only drawn attention to the immediate need for justice but also highlighted broader concerns regarding communal harmony and the rule of law in society.
