Jaishankar, Derek O’ Brien Among 11 Leaders Set To Be Elected Unopposed To Rajya Sabha

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Trinamool Congress leader Derek O' Brien are among 11 leaders set to be elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha.

Reportedly, six Trinamool Congress and five BJP candidates will be elected unopposed.

The ruling BJP has gained a seat and has 93 members in Rajya Sabha, where the government does not have a majority.

The Election Commission had announced the schedule for the election on 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal -- which will be held on July 24.

The Commission said 10 members from Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal are scheduled to retire in July and August.

The seats which are to be vacated in Rajya Sabha due to the retirement of members included Derek O'Brien from West Bengal and S Jaishankar from Gujarat.

Besides Derek-O-Brien, TMC leaders Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Dola Sen, professor Samirul Islam, Prakash Barik and social worker Saket Gokhale are going to win unopposed.
