India and Germany Jointly Condemn Nuclear Threats Amid Ongoing Ukraine War
India and Germany have voiced serious concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its dire humanitarian impact. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed that using or threatening to use nuclear weapons in this context is unacceptable. They also condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all forms. The leaders stressed the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace aligned with international law.

Global Security Concerns
The war in Ukraine has negatively affected global food and energy security, particularly impacting developing nations. Modi and Scholz highlighted the importance of upholding international law, urging all states to avoid using force against any nation's territorial integrity or political independence. They also condemned the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, expressing concern over civilian casualties and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages taken by Hamas. They emphasised improving humanitarian aid distribution across Gaza. Both sides urged regional players to act responsibly to prevent further escalation of the conflict. The deteriorating situation in Lebanon was also a concern, with calls for an urgent cessation of hostilities.
Diplomatic Solutions and Regional Stability
Modi and Scholz agreed that diplomatic means are essential for resolving conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. They reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution, envisioning a sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel. The leaders stressed that India and the EU share interests in ensuring security and prosperity in a multi-polar world.
They highlighted the importance of deepening the India-EU Strategic Partnership for global benefits. Both leaders called for concerted action against terrorist groups, including those banned by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). They urged countries to eliminate terrorist safe havens and disrupt networks according to international law.
Strategic Partnerships and Reforms
Emerging threats from new technologies used for terrorism were noted with concern. Modi and Scholz are committed to promoting a peaceful Indo-Pacific region based on international law and mutual respect. They reaffirmed their dedication to expanding the Indo-German Strategic Partnership.
Both leaders underscored the significance of concluding agreements between the EU and India, including a Free Trade Agreement and Investment Protection Agreement. They also agreed on the need for UNSC reforms to address regional and global crises effectively, reflecting 21st-century realities.
India and Germany's discussions highlight their shared commitment to addressing global challenges through diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and adherence to international law. Their collaboration aims to foster peace, security, and sustainable development worldwide.
