India Calls Back High Commissioner To Canada Over Baseless Accusations
The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Monday that India will recall its High Commissioner and other diplomats from Canada. This decision stems from concerns about the safety of these officials. "We have no faith in the current Canadian Government's commitment to ensure their security," stated the MEA.
India's move highlights growing tensions between the two nations. The withdrawal of diplomats is a significant step, indicating a lack of trust in Canada's ability to protect Indian officials. This development could impact diplomatic relations further.

The tension escalated earlier when India accused the Canadian government of making "preposterous" allegations against its diplomats. The issue arose from a diplomatic note suggesting that India's High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, and other Indian diplomats were under scrutiny in an investigation.
This investigation was tied to the circumstances surrounding the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a figure associated with Khalistani terrorism. The Ministry of External Affairs took a firm stance against these accusations, leading to the summoning of the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner, Stewart Wheeler, to express India's discontent.
This fallout marks a notable low in Indo-Canadian diplomatic relations, signaling a potential long-term impact on bilateral ties. The decision to withdraw high-ranking diplomats underscores the severity of the situation and India's stance on protecting its diplomatic personnel abroad.
The implications of this move could extend beyond immediate diplomatic relations, affecting various aspects of cooperation between the two countries.
