India Braces for Heavy Rains As Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha on High Alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rainfall affecting states like Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha. Mumbai faces severe weather conditions, including orange and red alerts. Isolated heavy rains are forecasted for northern states, with significant impacts already felt in affected regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts as monsoon rains continue to affect various regions. Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha are experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Other states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa are also expected to face intense downpours.

Meanwhile, Mumbai and nearby districts remain under orange and red alerts due to continuous rain. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the Ghats of Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara are on red alert. Thane, Sindhudurg, and Palghar have been placed under orange alert. The city has already witnessed incidents such as short circuits and tree falls.

Heavy Rainfall Alerts in Coastal Regions

The IMD forecasts extremely heavy rainfall for Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Interior Karnataka, South Odisha, and South Chhattisgarh on August 18. In Konkan and Goa regions along with the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, extremely heavy rain is expected until tomorrow. Gujarat is likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days.

Delhi will have a generally cloudy sky with occasional light rain or thundershowers during the day. Minimum temperatures are predicted to be around 23–25°C, slightly below normal levels. Maximum temperatures will likely range between 32–34°C. More rain is anticipated in the coming days.

Weather Forecast for Northern States

The weather agency also predicts isolated heavy rainfall for Jammu and Kashmir until Tuesday. Himachal Pradesh will see showers on Monday while Uttarakhand and Rajasthan may receive intermittent rain throughout the week.

A fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is causing these heavy rains across central, southern, and western India. This system is contributing significantly to the current weather conditions affecting these regions.

In Mumbai's Chira Bazaar area, a staircase collapse due to a landslide injured three people and resulted in two fatalities. Such incidents highlight the impact of ongoing severe weather conditions in affected areas.
