IAF Pilot Sqn Ldr Anuj Vashisht Dies in Su-30 Crash Days Before Wedding, Family in Shock

A tragic accident involving an Indian Air Force fighter jet has left a family and community in deep grief. Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht, who was just days away from getting married, lost his life when his Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft crashed during a training sortie in Assam.

Fighter Jet Disappeared From Radar During Training

The accident occurred when a Su-30 MKI fighter jet took off from Jorhat Airbase in Assam for a routine training mission. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft disappeared from radar, raising immediate concerns.

The next day, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that the aircraft had crashed and that both pilots on board had suffered fatal injuries.

The IAF identified the pilots as Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar.

In an official statement shared on social media, the IAF said:

"IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash. All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief."

Wedding Preparations Turn Into Mourning

At Vashisht's home in Sector 22B, Gurugram, preparations were underway for his upcoming wedding. His fiancée, who is also a pilot, was expected to marry him in just a few days.

Family members and relatives had already begun making arrangements for the celebrations.

However, the joyful atmosphere quickly turned into grief after news of the crash reached the family.

Relatives and close friends soon gathered at the house as the tragic news spread across the neighbourhood.

Family Still Coming to Terms With the Loss

According to family relatives, some members of the family have already left for Assam, where the crash occurred.

A relative, Chandra Prakash, said the family is still trying to cope with the heartbreaking news.

In a particularly emotional detail, Vashisht's mother has not yet been informed about his death. She has been told that her son was injured and is still hoping for his recovery.
The family is struggling to deal with the sudden loss of a son who had made them proud through his service in the Indian Air Force.

From Gurugram Student to Air Force Officer

Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht had a strong academic and professional journey before joining the Indian Air Force.

He completed his early education at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 14, Gurugram.
Inspired by a passion to serve the nation, he later joined the Indian Air Force and became a fighter pilot.

Vashisht originally belonged to Bhiwani district in Haryana, but his family had been living in Gurugram for several years.

He is survived by:
