Himachal CM Sukhu and Congress Rebel Sharma's Feud Takes a Bitter Turn
The political landscape in Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a high-stakes drama as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Congress rebel turned BJP candidate for the Dharamshala assembly bypoll, Sudhir Sharma, engage in a bitter exchange of allegations. The dispute has escalated into a full-blown smear campaign, with both parties trading accusations of corruption and misconduct.

On Friday, Chief Minister Sukhu launched a scathing attack on Sharma, accusing him of investing black money in 82 properties valued at Rs 10 crore, allegedly purchased in the name of his driver, Nek Ram. Sukhu branded Sharma as a member of the land mafia and criticized his transition from a Congress supporter to a BJP candidate as an act driven by greed and betrayal of public trust. These allegations were made during Sukhu's appearance at a function organized by the Himachal-Punjab Gorkha Association in Dharamshala.
In response to the accusations, Sudhir Sharma dismissed the Chief Minister's statements as baseless and challenged the authenticity of the claims regarding property ownership. He countered by questioning the ownership of a building leased to Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam and highlighted questionable land deals and mining leases allegedly benefiting Sukhu's relatives. Sharma also accused the Chief Minister of contributing to the state's financial woes, increasing unemployment, and fostering a land mafia.
The political feud has drawn attention to several contentious issues, including allegations of corruption, misuse of power, and the integrity of political leaders. Sharma's rebuttal includes a bold challenge to Sukhu, proposing that if any undisclosed properties are found beyond those declared in his poll affidavit, he would surrender them to the government. Similarly, he suggests that Sukhu should do the same if proven to be lying.
This exchange underscores the intense rivalry and deep-seated animosity between the two leaders, casting a shadow over the upcoming Dharamshala assembly bypoll. As accusations continue to fly, voters are left to sift through the claims and counterclaims ahead of making their choice at the ballot box. The outcome of this electoral contest may well hinge on how convincingly each candidate can address the allegations levelled against them.
The political narrative unfolding in Himachal Pradesh is a testament to the turbulent dynamics that often characterize Indian politics. As both leaders stand their ground, the electorate will play a crucial role in determining the future course for Dharamshala and potentially setting new precedents for political accountability and transparency in the region.
