Jammu Rain Update: All Govt & Private Schools, Colleges Shut As Authorities Extend Holidays

Heavy rains have caused significant disruption in the Jammu region, leading to the suspension of a recruitment drive for constable positions across various security agencies. Additionally, all schools in the division are to remain closed until August 27 due to adverse weather conditions. The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education has also postponed exams for Classes 10 and 11 that were scheduled for Wednesday.

Three fatalities have been reported, with over two dozen homes and bridges damaged as torrential rains hit Jammu. Most water bodies are overflowing, causing flooding in low-lying areas and roads throughout the city. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed concern over the "quite serious" situation in many parts of Jammu province and plans to fly from Srinagar to personally oversee developments.

Recruitment Drive Suspended

The Border Security Force (BSF) announced on X that the recruitment drive for constable (GD) Exam-2025 at Shaheed Veer Singh Stadium, BSF Paloura Camp, Jammu, is suspended due to bad weather. "The ongoing recruitment drive for constable (GD) Exam-2025 at Shaheed Veer Singh Stadium, BSF Paloura Camp, Jammu, is suspended for the day today (August 26) due to inclement weather, in the interest and welfare of candidates," stated the BSF. Candidates who were scheduled for August 26 can now attend on September 3.

This recruitment process involves direct hiring for the Central Armed Police Forces, Special Security Force, and Assam Rifles. The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standards Test (PST) are conducted at BSF Paloura Camp using RFID technology to ensure transparency and accuracy. All systems are operating according to established protocols.

Schools Remain Closed

Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director of School Education (Jammu), issued an order stating that all government and private schools in the Jammu Division will stay closed on August 27 due to ongoing severe weather conditions and flood-like situations across various locations in the region.

The situation remains critical as authorities work to manage the impact of heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow official updates as efforts continue to address the challenges posed by this extreme weather event.
