Gurgaon police arrests man carrying Rs 7 lakh reward on him

Jharkhand police had announced the cash reward for his capture.

Gurgaon, Oct 11: A man carrying a reward of Rs 7 lakh on him was arrested in Haryana's Gurugram on Wednesday.

Akhilesh Singh, allegedly involved in 56 cases of robbery, snatching and murder, was arrested following an exchange of fire at a guest house in posh DLF area, the police said.

Jharkhand police had announced the cash reward for his capture, they said.

"On receiving information from Jharkhand police that Akhilesh Singh was hiding in Gurgaon, he was arrested on Tuesday night," Gurgaon Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said.

"The police cordoned off the guest house in which Singh was hiding with a woman who he claimed to be his wife. The crime branch teams raided the room and Singh opened fire at them," the officer said.

"The police retaliated in which Singh received bullet injury in his legs. He was admitted to the civil hospital and put under arrest," Khirwar said.

The woman has also been arrested for trying to rescue Singh, the police officer said, adding a country-made pistol was recovered from Singh.
