Gujarat Eye Hospital Patients Woken Up At Wee Hours, Made BJP Members Without Consent; Party Refutes Charge

A hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat, is facing criticism after a video surfaced online, accusing it of enrolling 350 eye surgery patients as BJP members without their consent.

According to an India Today report, the controversy began when one of the patients, Kamlesh Thummar from Junagadh, recorded a video and shared his experience on social media.

Thummar, who had gone to the Ranchhod Das Trust Hospital for an eye surgery, alleged that he was among 350 patients in a similar situation. According to him, the incident took place late at night while the patients were asleep.

"Someone came and asked for our mobile numbers and OTPs. I gave mine, and soon after, I received a message stating, 'You have become a BJP member,'" Thummar said.

He further explained that when he questioned the person, the individual admitted they were being enrolled as BJP members.

"I was told, 'Without this, no one can be saved.' That's when I decided to record the video and make it viral," Thummar added.

Responding to the allegations, Shanti Badolia, an official at Ranchhod Das Hospital, stated, "This person is not part of our staff. He could have been a contact of one of the patients. We will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter."

Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP Vice President, Gordhan Zadaphia, denied any party involvement, stating, "We have not instructed anyone to enrol people into BJP in this manner, and no one from our office is involved. If such activities are happening, we will investigate and take appropriate action."
