Tragic Fire at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Plant in Surat Claims Four Lives
A fire at a steel plant in Hazira, Surat, Gujarat, led to the tragic deaths of four workers and injured another. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India's facility. Surat Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gehlot reported that the fire began when burning coal unexpectedly spilled over, igniting a section of the plant. The blaze claimed the lives of four labourers who were on a lift at the time.

Further investigations into the incident will be conducted by both police and the factory inspector. An official from Hazira police station mentioned that no accidental death report has been filed yet. Of the deceased, three bodies have been taken to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
Equipment Failure at Corex Plant
A company spokesperson stated that the accident was due to equipment failure at the Corex plant. "We are sorry to report an accident at COREX plant due to an equipment failure at AMNS Hazira Operations," they said. The mishap occurred around 6:00 pm during a unit restart after a shutdown.
The four victims were contractual workers from a private company performing maintenance near a lift elevator. Unfortunately, they could not survive the impact. One worker sustained minor injuries and was promptly taken to a hospital within the plant premises for treatment and is recovering.
Immediate Response and Support
The company has activated all emergency protocols and cordoned off the affected area. They are collaborating with relevant authorities on-site and have initiated an internal investigation to determine the cause of the accident. "We are extending all support to the families of the affected personnel," added the spokesperson.
This tragic event highlights the importance of safety measures in industrial settings. Authorities and company officials are working diligently to uncover what led to this unfortunate incident.
