Flipkart Issues Apology After 'Misandrist' Promotional Ad Calls Husbands 'Aalsi', 'Kambakht', Bewakoof'

E-commerce giant Flipkart has issued an apology following backlash over a promotional video that referred to husbands as "aalsi, kambakkht, and bewakoof."

A men's rights group found the language offensive, prompting the company to remove the video.

Flipkart Issues Apology Over Ad

The video, which was promoting Flipkart's 'Big Billion Days Sale,' was taken down from their social media platforms after criticism. It featured an animated couple and offered tips for women on how to discreetly purchase and store handbags from Flipkart without their husbands noticing, ahead of the 'Big Billion Days' sale.

However, the video sparked outrage online, particularly from the 'NCMIndia Council For Men Affairs'. The group shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), calling it "toxic" and "misandrist."

Their post read, "So @Flipkart deleted this misandrist post. But what was the logic behind even posting such toxic video addressing a Husband as Aalsi, Kambakkht and Bewakoof Pati. They must apologise for this and hope they will not repeat it. Misandry will Not be Tolerated Anymore."

In response, Flipkart promptly apologized, commenting on the post that the video was shared "in error" and had been removed.

"We're sorry for the offending video which was posted in error, and took it down as soon as we realised our mistake. We will do better in the future," Flipkart stated.

The Flipkart 'Big Billion Days' sale began today and will run until October 6.
