Farooq Abdullah Condemns Ramesh Bidhuri's Inappropriate Remarks on Atishi and Priyanka Gandhi
Farooq Abdullah, the National Conference president, criticised BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri's remarks about Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He described the comments as inappropriate and unfortunate, reflecting a narrow mindset. Bidhuri, BJP's candidate for the Kalkaji seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, sparked controversy with his statements.

Bidhuri faced backlash after commenting on Atishi's surname change from Marlena to Singh, suggesting she changed her father. He also made remarks about building roads in Kalkaji that would resemble Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks. Atishi, the current MLA from Kalkaji, had dropped her previous surname some time ago.
Political Reactions to Controversial Remarks
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress criticised Bidhuri and the BJP for these comments. Following public outrage, Bidhuri expressed regret over his statements. The BJP also disapproved of Bidhuri's remarks, emphasising that politicians should avoid gender or family-related comments.
Abdullah expressed his disappointment at such statements being made by leaders. "These are very inappropriate things to say and should never be said. It is unfortunate that there are leaders who think so lowly. I feel deeply regretful about this," he told reporters during a religious event.
Calls for Wisdom and Understanding
Abdullah further commented on Bidhuri's mindset, hoping for divine intervention. "I believe he is a person with a narrow mindset. May God grant him wisdom," he said regarding the BJP leader's remark on Priyanka Gandhi.
On Monday, Abdullah attended a religious function at a gurdwara in Digiana to celebrate 'Prakash Parv,' marking Guru Gobind Singh's birth anniversary. He expressed hope that the Guru’s teachings would inspire righteousness, peace, and harmony among all.
The incident has highlighted ongoing tensions between political parties in India, with calls for more respectful discourse among leaders. The focus remains on promoting understanding and avoiding personal attacks in political debates.
