Explosion in North Goa Farm House Results in One Detention, No Casualties

A late-night explosion at a private farmhouse in Ansolem village, North Goa, has prompted a significant police investigation, with one individual currently detained in connection with the incident. The blast, which occurred around 10 pm on Monday, resulted in structural damage to several neighboring houses, though fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Authorities from Valpoi Police are actively probing the circumstances that led to the storage of a substantial quantity of explosives at the site. The explosion not only demolished a godown filled with these materials but also sent shockwaves to the nearby Valpoi town, situated approximately four kilometres away.

Initial findings suggest that gelatin explosives, typically utilized in nearby stone crusher plants, were involved. The police are conducting a detailed interrogation of the detained individual, whose identity remains undisclosed at this stage. A comprehensive inquiry is set to continue on Tuesday, with the area being cordoned off and forensic experts called in to assist.

Local MLA Deviya Rane has taken to social media platform X to assure residents that an FIR will be lodged against those responsible under the Explosives Substance Act. Rane's message highlighted the absence of injuries from the incident and promised rigorous action following the investigation's conclusion.

The incident has raised concerns over the procurement and storage of explosive materials in residential areas. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are determined to uncover how such a dangerous quantity of explosives ended up in a civilian location and to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
