En Route To Pakistan, Woman Delivers Baby 'Sarhad' In Ludhiana

A baby girl, who was due to be born in Pakistan, was born in Ludhiana as a woman, identified as Mehwish. The 32 year old pregnant woman was returning to Pakistan from India, experienced labor pains while traveling on the Chhattisgarh Express train to the Attari railway station, according Hindustan Times.

This led to an unscheduled halt in Ludhiana, where she was promptly taken to Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital, and the delivery took place. In recognition of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the birth, Mehwish stated that she would name her daughter 'Sarhad'. Mehwish, originally from Agra, had been married to Shoib, a resident of Karachi, Pakistan, in 2017, and the couple already has two other daughters, reported HT news.

Accompanying Mehwish on her journey to the Attari Border was her brother, Jibran Khan. It was explained by Khan that his sister had arrived in India two months ago. "The delivery was intended to take place in Pakistan to avoid complications with regards to the baby's nationality certificate. However, difficulties in acquiring the visa, which finally came through close to the due date, were being faced by us." The good health of the mother and the newborn was confirmed by Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Mandeep Kaur. Subsequently, Mehwish and her baby were returned to Agra, as reported by HT News.
