DU PhD Admission 2024 Likely Delayed By A Month Following UGC NET Paper Leak, Says Vice Chancellor

Delhi University's PhD admissions for the academic session 2024-25 are facing potential delays due to the recent UGC NET paper leak. Traditionally, these admissions rely on UGC NET scores, with 70 per cent weightage given to the exam results and 30 per cent to the interview process.

Concerns arose after speculations suggested that DU might arrange a separate entrance exam in light of the UGC NET incident. However, DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh has clarified that the university has no immediate plans for such an exam. Instead, they await directives from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

"We have no plans to hold a separate in-house PhD entrance exam. We will follow whatever UGC suggests. We have not received any communication from the NTA and are awaiting their guidance. We expect the academic session for PhD to be delayed by a month," Vice Chancellor Singh confirmed to ANI.

The UGC NET exam, administered by the NTA, serves as a crucial determinant for teaching positions and PhD admissions across India. The exam was recently cancelled on June 19 following concerns raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding its integrity.

Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has opted not to use UGC NET scores, choosing instead to conduct its own entrance exam in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
