Ditwah Cyclone Live Tracking: Current Location, Speed, Path, Landfall and Latest Updates

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced that Cyclonic Storm Ditwah has begun moving toward the north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra coasts, triggering widespread alerts across the region. In its latest update on X, the IMD said the system is currently located about 480 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 580 km south-southeast of Chennai.

In its morning bulletin, the IMD reported that Cyclonic Storm Ditwah [Pronunciation: Ditwah] over coastal Sri Lanka and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with the speed of 10 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 28th November 2025 over the same region, near latitude 8.3°N and longitude 81.0°E, about 40 km southwest of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 100 km northwest of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 320km south-southeast of Karaikal (India), 430 km south-southeast of Puducherry(India) and 530 km south of Chennai (India). It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards across Sri Lanka coast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal and reach over southwestBay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of 30th November.

Cyclone Ditwah name was proposed by Yemen and is inspired by the Detwah Lagoon on Socotra Island, famous for its unique coastal ecosystem. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones use a pre-approved list of names submitted by member countries.

IMD issues red alert in 4 TN Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a red alert for the Cauvery Delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai, indicating extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Chengalpattu, forecasting very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm. RMC Director B. Amudha said Ditwah is not expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and will continue to be treated as a cyclonic storm based on current forecasts.

Amudha added that gale winds near the storm centre could reach speeds of 60-80 kmph with gusts up to 90 kmph, while areas under the outer bands may experience winds between 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph. Similar squally winds are also expected over parts of the Arabian Sea adjoining Kerala, Lakshadweep and the Maldives. The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid the south, central, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal for the next five days due to rough sea conditions and urged those already in deep-sea areas to return to safer zones immediately.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin held a review meeting with officials from the State Disaster Management Authority on Thursday to assess special initiatives undertaken for disaster preparedness and response as the state braces for the cyclone's impact, according to PTI.
