The Indian government is sending a "sample testing message" to the smartphones of every citizen to check whether the emergency alert system working on your cellphone.

According to reports, many smartphone users received the message around 1.30 pm today.

As per the government, it is an Emergency Alert System being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority with the aim of enhancing public safety and timely alerts.

"This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through the Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies," reads a flash message received by multiple smartphone users today.

As per the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the cell broadcast alert system is a technology enabling governmental transmission of urgent messages related to disaster management to all mobile devices within a specific geographic zone. This transmission applies universally, encompassing both residents and visitors.

It may be recalled that people had earlier received a test message on July 20.
