Delhi Water Crisis: Kejriwal Backs Atishi's Hunger Strike from Jail
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal expressed his support for Water Minister Atishi as she commenced an indefinite hunger strike demanding increased water supply from Haryana.
Kejriwal, currently in Tihar jail due to the now-resolved liquor policy case, conveyed his well wishes to Atishi as she began her strike in Bhogal, South Delhi. At the event, attended by Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, Sunita Kejriwal read out a message from the Chief Minister, expressing hope for the success of Atishi's endeavor.

Kejriwal highlighted the distressing scenes of water scarcity during the ongoing heatwave and emphasized Delhi's dependence on neighbouring states for water supply. He criticized Haryana for reducing Delhi's water share, calling for cooperation instead of political gamesmanship, especially given the severe water shortage facing many areas in Delhi.
Atishi, accompanied by Sunita Kejriwal, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before starting her hunger strike in Bhogal. She announced her 'Pani Satyagraha' to secure Delhi's rightful share of water from Haryana, stating that Haryana has been supplying less than the agreed amount, leaving over 2.8 million people in Delhi facing acute water shortage.
Despite efforts to resolve the issue, Haryana has reportedly cut Delhi's water supply even further in recent days, exacerbating the crisis. Atishi's hunger strike aims to draw attention to this critical issue and pressure the Haryana government to fulfill its obligations to Delhi.
