Delhi’s New CM Rekha Gupta Viral Memes – Here’s Why Social Media Can’t Stop Talking

The suspense over Delhi's new Chief Minister has ended, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen first-time MLA Rekha Gupta as Atishi's successor.

The announcement quickly became a trending topic on social media after a user linked it to a well-known advertisement featuring a catchy jingle. The original advertisement's jingle was, "Hema, Rekha, Jaya aur Sushma, sabki pasand Nirma" (Hema, Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma, everyone's choice is Nirma).

A user on X, formerly known as Twitter posted a collage featuring four well-known women-Hema Malini, Rekha Gupta, Jaya Bachchan, and Sushma Swaraj-along with the caption, "Hema Rekha Jaya aur Sushma, sabki pasand Bhajpa" (Hema, Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma, everyone's choice is BJP) #RekhaGupta.

The meme has gone viral, with many users reacting in amusement. One person commented, "Now this legendary melody is complete," while another simply wrote, "Hell yeah."

Another user praised the sentiment, posting, "Love the spirit of unity and support!"

However, not all reactions were positive. Some criticised BJP's decision to elect Rekha Gupta. A user wrote, "Worst decision made by BJP. Nari Shakti kar kar desh barbad kar diye" (The country is being ruined in the name of women's empowerment). Another commented, "Worst politics and worst people I have seen in the modern era-just useless, senseless, and don't know how to behave in public."

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Rekha Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat with a margin of over 29,000 votes, defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Bandana Kumari in the February 5 polls.

The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats in the elections, while AAP won 22 seats.
