Delhi Police Foils Munawar Faruqui Murder Plot, Arrests Two Shooters Linked to Godara–Brar Gang

Two alleged shooters from the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan gang, who were reportedly plotting to kill stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, were arrested by Delhi Police after a gunfight on Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in New Delhi on Thursday. The men, identified as Rahul and Sahil, are said to be residents of Panipat and Bhiwani in Haryana.

According to NDTV, citing unnamed Delhi Police sources, Faruqui became a target of gangster leaders Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar due to his controversial jokes about Hindu deities. Police said the murder plan was foiled after its counter-intelligence team intercepted the two shooters.

During questioning, Rahul and Sahil confessed that they had come to Delhi with instructions from Godara and Brar, both of whom are currently abroad, to assassinate Faruqui. Investigators learned that the pair had previously carried out surveillance of the comedian in both Mumbai and Bengaluru. They also attempted an attack in Bengaluru, which failed after Faruqui switched vehicles at the last moment, NDTV reported.

Munawar Faruqui, 33, rose to national prominence after winning the reality show Bigg Boss in 2024 and now has 14.2 million Instagram followers. However, his career has often been marred by controversy. In 2021, he was arrested in Madhya Pradesh under hate speech laws for allegedly mocking Hindu gods and spent over a month in jail before securing bail. In 2024, he was again detained during a Mumbai Police raid on an illegal hookah bar but was later released on bail.

Police further revealed that one of the accused, Rahul, who suffered a gunshot wound during the Delhi encounter, was already wanted in connection with a triple murder case in Yamunanagar, Haryana, in December 2024. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Officers confirmed that the firearms used in the gunfight, along with a motorcycle, were recovered from the scene.
