Delhi Police Confirms Continued Security for Wrestlers Amid Legal Testimony
Delhi Police clarified on Thursday that the security cover for women wrestlers, set to testify against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has not been withdrawn. The clarification came in response to a post by top Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on X.

Security Misunderstanding Addressed
The Delhi Police explained, "The security provided to the wrestlers hasn't been withdrawn; it was decided to request Haryana Police to take over the responsibility in future, since the protectees normally reside there." They further stated that the assigned Delhi Police PSOs misunderstood this decision and were delayed in reporting. "The situation has been rectified. Security cover continues," they added.
Earlier, Vinesh Phogat had posted on X, "Delhi Police has withdrawn the security of the women wrestlers who are going to testify against Brij Bhushan in the court." She also tagged @DelhiPolice and the Delhi and National commissions of women in her post.
Accusations and Legal Proceedings
Vinesh Phogat, along with other wrestlers including her cousin Sangeeta Phogat, who is married to Bajrang Punia, accused Brij Bhushan of sexual exploitation. The Delhi Police had lodged an FIR and subsequently filed a chargesheet against the BJP leader in this case.
The next hearing in this case is scheduled for Friday. This development comes as Vinesh Phogat continues her fight for justice alongside other affected wrestlers.
Vinesh had reached the Paris Olympic final but was disqualified from the Games for being overweight ahead of the gold medal bout. Her journey has been marked by both achievements and challenges.
The situation regarding security has been closely monitored due to its significance in ensuring the safety of those involved in high-profile cases. The Delhi Police's prompt response aimed to reassure all parties about their commitment to maintaining security.
This incident highlights the complexities involved in managing security for individuals involved in sensitive legal matters. The coordination between different police forces is crucial to ensure continuous protection.
The case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh remains a significant legal battle, with testimonies from key witnesses like Vinesh Phogat playing a critical role. The outcome of this case will be closely watched by many.
Ensuring the safety of witnesses is paramount in such cases, and any lapses can have serious implications. The authorities' swift action to rectify misunderstandings is essential to maintain trust and security.
The ongoing legal proceedings and their outcomes will have far-reaching impacts on the wrestling community and beyond. The testimonies and evidence presented will be crucial in determining the course of justice.
The involvement of high-profile athletes like Vinesh Phogat brings additional attention and scrutiny to the case, underscoring the importance of thorough and fair legal processes.
The Delhi Police's clarification aims to dispel any concerns regarding the withdrawal of security and emphasizes their commitment to protecting those involved in this sensitive case.
