Delhi-NCR Auto-Taxi Strike: Why Are Delhi-NCR Autos On Strike? All You Need To Know For August 22-23
Are you not finding taxis and autos today? Well, it is because Auto and taxi unions across Delhi-NCR are on strike for today and tomorrow that is August 22 and 23. To highlight concerns over the impact of app-based services like Ola and Uber on their livelihoods, all of them have come in unity.
This protest, involving over 15 major unions, is expected to cause widespread disruption, with nearly 400,000 vehicles, including autos and taxis, likely to be off the roads. So, it is suggested that you make sure that you have an option B ready.

Why Are Delhi-NCR Autos On Strike?
How many times you have heard your ola or uber driver criticizing about the terms and conditions of these companies? I have encountered this conversation almost everytime.
According to the multiple media reports, for years, auto and taxi drivers have voiced their grievances against the growing dominance of app-based services, which they claim have significantly reduced their earnings. These platforms, drivers argue, impose hefty commissions, making it increasingly difficult for them to sustain their livelihoods. Despite their repeated appeals to the government, they feel their concerns have been ignored.
Kishan Verma, President of the Delhi Auto Taxi Transport Congress Union, emphasized the drivers' frustration, stating, "We've been appealing to the government for years about the issues caused by companies like Ola and Uber, but our voices have gone unheard. These companies operate with impunity, and we believe there is a deeper nexus at play. Our livelihoods are being threatened, and it's time the government took action," as reported by Economic Times.
Allegations of Illicit Activities
In addition to economic concerns, the unions are also protesting against what they allege are illegal activities linked to app-based services, including smuggling and the trade of alcohol and drugs. The unions claim that these activities are being conducted under the guise of legitimate operations, further endangering their livelihoods and the safety of the community.
Impact of the Strike
The strike is expected to cause significant disruption across the Delhi-NCR region, as it involves a large number of auto and taxi drivers. Commuters may face considerable difficulties in finding transportation during these two days, as services will be severely limited.
The unions are demanding immediate government intervention to address these issues, protect their jobs, and ensure fair competition in the transportation sector. As the strike looms, commuters and authorities alike brace for the widespread impact this protest is likely to have on the region's transportation network.
