Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Issues Warning on Police Action Against Slum Demolition Rumours
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that individuals spreading false information about slum demolitions in the city will face police action. Gupta emphasised that no slums would be demolished without first providing permanent housing to their residents. This statement came after a meeting focused on illegal demolitions.

Permanent Housing Assurance
The chief minister assured that street vendors with PM Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme documents will not be displaced. This assurance aims to protect their livelihoods. The ruling BJP has been criticised by opposition parties for the demolition of the Madrasi camp slum in south Delhi.
Gupta reiterated that misinformation about slum demolitions is being spread, despite government assurances of providing permanent housing before any demolition. "Strict action will be taken against those spreading such rumours," she stated.
Improving Living Conditions
During the meeting, Gupta instructed officials to ensure basic amenities like sewage, drainage, drinking water, roads, street lighting, community toilets, and waste management are maintained in slum areas. She stressed the importance of providing these facilities to improve the quality of life for slum residents.
"It is our responsibility to ensure they receive the same facilities as other city residents. Our goal is not just redevelopment but also improving their quality of life," Gupta said. The redevelopment of all slum clusters in Delhi will be executed in phases.
The government's commitment to enhancing living conditions in slums reflects its broader aim of urban development. By ensuring basic amenities and permanent housing, the administration seeks to address both immediate needs and long-term welfare of slum dwellers.
