The cyclone could reach wind speeds of 120 kmph on Sunday, triggering extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal and north Odisha on May 26-27. Additionally, parts of northeast India may experience extremely heavy rainfall on May 27-28.

The IMD has warned of localized flooding and major damage to vulnerable structures, power and communication lines, crops, and orchards in South and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal.

Given the anticipated impact of this potentially devastating cyclonic storm, the IMD advises people to stay indoors as a precautionary measure. Extra careful measures are advised for people living in affected regions like West Bengal and Odisha.

Precautionary Measures While Indoors:

  • Stay updated about weather conditions and IMD alerts.
  • Switch off the main electric supply to prevent electrical fires.
  • Switch off gas supply to prevent gas leaks.
  • Boil or purify water before use due to potential water contamination.
  • Close doors and windows properly to avoid damage from strong winds.
  • If your structure is vulnerable, move to a safer place.

Precautionary Measures While Outdoors:

  • Take cover in a safe, covered building.
  • Avoid vulnerable structures.
  • Stay away from electrical supply infrastructure.
  • Avoid wires, sharp objects, and water bodies.

After the Cyclone:

  • Wait for authorities to confirm the end of risk before leaving a safe place.
  • Ensure the area is declared safe before going out or entering a house.
  • Avoid touching wires, electrical equipment, or potentially infected objects.
  • Take immediate cleanliness measures to avoid water-borne and vector-borne diseases.
