COVID-19 Cases In India: Health Ministry Reports 3,961 Active Cases, 32 Deaths As Of June 2

As per the Health Ministry reports, COVID-19 cases are rapidly rising in India. On Monday, there were 3,961 active COVID-19 cases, marking a sharp rise from the 257. This surge in COVID-19 cases underscores the volatile nature of the pandemic's trajectory within the country.

Over the past day, there have been 685 new COVID-19 cases reported, contributing to the current active case count. This increase is a stark reminder of the pandemic's persistent threat, despite the low severity of infections noted by official sources. The majority of these cases are managed with home care, indicating a controlled situation but one that demands continued vigilance.

According to the state-wise breakdown, Kerala leads with 1,336 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 467, and other states like Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh also reporting significant numbers. This geographical distribution of cases highlights the widespread impact of the virus across different regions of India.

Amid this surge, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has pointed to Omicron subvariants as the primary drivers behind the current spike in cases. Dr. Rajiv Behl, Director General of ICMR, revealed that genome sequencing of samples from western and southern India shows that subvariants such as LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1 are prevalent, with the first three being identified more frequently. Despite the concerning rise in cases attributed to these subvariants, the severity of infections remains low, offering a silver lining in the ongoing battle against the pandemic.

"We have been closely monitoring the situation. At this moment, overall, we should monitor, be vigilant but there is no cause to worry," Dr. Behl stated, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in the face of these developments. The government's close watch on the COVID-19 situation and the emphasis on monitoring and vigilance reflect a proactive approach to managing the pandemic's impact.

In the last 24 hours, the country has also mourned the loss of four individuals due to COVID-19, with one death reported each from Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. This brings the total number of fatalities to 32, a somber reminder of the virus's lethal potential even as the overall situation is described as under control.
