Couple’s 'Bharat Jodo Vivah' Draws Inspiration From Rahul Gandhi's Yatra. Check Out Their Wedding Invite
A couple has taken inspiration from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra to celebrate their wedding as a tribute to India's rich diversity. Abhilasha Kotwal and Vinal William have named their marriage "Bharat Jodo Vivah" and have invited Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, seeking their blessings for their union.
Abhilasha Kotwal, who has roots in Jammu and Bengal, and Vinal William, whose heritage is from Punjab and Kerala, designed their wedding invitation to reflect their varied backgrounds. The invite proudly introduces them as the "daughter of Jammu and Bengal" and the "son of Punjab and Kerala," reinforcing the message of unity among different cultures.

Kotwal shared the wedding invitation on X, formerly known as Twitter tagging the Gandhi siblings in her post. She wrote, "When your wedding is more diverse than a coalition government, you know it's truly special! [Rahul Gandhi], [Priyanka Gandhi] - our love story embodies the values you champion. Would be honoured to have your blessings!"
In a personal touch, Kotwal hand-delivered the wedding invitation to the Gandhi residence. The package included the wedding card, chocolates, and a mini copy of the Constitution of India. She expressed her excitement, saying, "Inspired by the #BharatJodoYatra, we are celebrating our #BharatJodoVivah to mark a love that transcends boundaries and faiths, uniting us as one. [Rahul Gandhi], [Priyanka Gandhi], our marriage mirrors the vision you stand for. Will you bless it?"
Adding to the significance of their invitation is a special link to the Gandhi family: Kotwal's mother designed Priyanka Gandhi's wedding invitation years ago.
The invitation quickly went viral, capturing the attention of many online. One user commented, "It's so beautiful. Understanding the soul of Rahul Gandhi ji's Bharat Jodo Yatra reflects the ethos of our India, which we miss and long for now. Congratulations and best wishes to your beautiful union." Another wrote, "Your hearts matched, and that's most important. If security is adequate, I'm certain the Gandhis will attend." Someone else added, "Congratulations on your wedding, Abhilasha. It is a great initiative."
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, was a major political movement by the Indian National Congress aimed at countering societal divisions and advocating for unity. The journey began on September 7, 2022, in Kanyakumari and concluded on January 30, 2023, in Jammu and Kashmir, covering 4,080 kilometres over 145 days. It sought to address issues like unemployment, economic inequality, and rising intolerance and was described by Gandhi as a movement against fear, prejudice, and hatred. Thousands participated, including activists, politicians, and citizens, marking significant moments for the Congress party along the way.
