Congress Announces Candidates for Punjab Assembly Bypolls Including Spouses of MPs Warring and Randhawa
The Congress party has announced its candidates for the bypolls in Punjab, scheduled for November 13. Amrita Warring, wife of Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, will contest from Gidderbaha. Jatinder Kaur, wife of Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, is the candidate for Dera Baba Nanak. These bypolls are necessary due to the election of sitting MLAs to the Lok Sabha.

Amrita Warring is contesting from Gidderbaha, a seat her husband Raja Warring previously held. Raja Warring secured victories in this constituency in 2012, 2017, and 2022. The seat became vacant after his recent win in the Ludhiana Lok Sabha election. Similarly, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa vacated the Dera Baba Nanak seat after winning a parliamentary seat from Gurdaspur.
Key Candidates and Constituencies
Jatinder Kaur is set to contest from Dera Baba Nanak, a seat her husband won multiple times since 2002. The Congress has also fielded Kuldeep Singh Dhillon from Barnala. Dhillon serves as the district president of Barnala for the party. This seat was vacated when Gurmeet Singh Hayer of AAP won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.
In Chabbewal, Ranjit Kumar will represent Congress. Kumar had previously contested unsuccessfully for the Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seat on a BSP ticket. The Chabbewal bypoll follows Raj Kumar Chabbewal's election to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur after switching allegiance to AAP.
Election Schedule and Deadlines
The bypolls for these assembly segments are set for November 13, with vote counting on November 23. Candidates must file nominations by October 25. The scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for October 28, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 30.
This series of bypolls reflects significant political shifts in Punjab's assembly seats due to recent Lok Sabha elections. The outcomes could influence future political dynamics in the state.
