Congress MP Manickam Tagore Moves Adjournment Motion Over Water Leakage In Parliament
Tamil Nadu Congress MP Manickam Tagore has submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, calling for the formation of a specialised committee comprising lawmakers from all parties to thoroughly inspect the Parliament building following water leaks in the lobby on July 31 due to heavy rainfall.
Tagore, who represents Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu and serves as the Congress party's whip in the Lok Sabha, highlighted the need for urgent attention to the building's weather resilience, especially given that the new Parliament building was completed just a year ago.

Sharing a video of water inside the lobby, Tagore stated, "The committee will focus on the causes of the leaks, evaluate the design and materials, and recommend necessary repairs. Additionally, it should establish a maintenance protocol and ensure transparency by publicly sharing their findings."
The new Parliament building, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on May 28, 2023, was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 970 crore. The four-storey building, which sits opposite the historic British-era Parliament building being preserved as a heritage asset, hosted its first special session on September 19, 2023.
The heavy rainfall in Delhi on Wednesday evening led to major waterlogging in various parts of the Delhi-NCR area, including around Parliament, causing traffic disruptions. Overflowing stormwater drains added to the challenges, with water spilling onto several streets.
In response to the heavy rains and the IMD's orange alert warning for more showers, Delhi schools were closed today. The precipitation, which began in the evening, continued late into the night on July 31, contributing to the widespread waterlogging across the city.
