Chhattisgarh Government Restores Original Names of Two Schemes After Deendayal Upadhyay
The Chhattisgarh government has renamed two schemes for the second time in five years. Initially named after Deendayal Upadhyay, they were changed to honour Rajiv Gandhi in 2019 by the Congress government. Now, the BJP government has reverted to the original names, according to a senior official.

The schemes are managed by the Chhattisgarh Urban Infrastructure Development Fund. The renaming order was issued on September 18 and appeared on the government website on September 30. The Rajiv Gandhi Swavlamban Yojna is now called Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Swavlamban Yojna, while the Rajiv Gandhi Ajivika Kendra livelihood centre Yojna has been renamed Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Ajivika Kendra Yojna.
Political Reactions to Scheme Renaming
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sai, who oversees Urban Administration, stated that the schemes were initially named after Deendayal Upadhyay and have now been restored to their original names. He emphasised that this change is merely a return to the initial naming.
In contrast, Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla criticised the decision. He argued that the BJP government lacks new initiatives and is instead renaming existing schemes from the previous Bhupesh Baghel-led administration. Shukla's comments reflect political tensions surrounding these changes.
The renaming of these schemes highlights ongoing political dynamics in Chhattisgarh. The decision has sparked differing opinions between the ruling BJP and opposition Congress parties. Both sides continue to debate over the significance and implications of these name changes.
