Chennai police commissioner transferred ahead of RK Nagar bypolls
The transfer was ordered by the Election Commission, following a plea by the DMK.
Chennai Police Commissioner S George has been transferred out of the post ahead of R K Nagar bypolls. The transfer was ordered by the Election Commission, following a plea by the DMK. Karan Sinha who served as Additional director general of police in CB-CID has been appointed as the new police commissioner, Chennai. The moves comes days before April 12 bypoll in R K Nagar assembly constituency.

The DMK, in its petition to the EC, had said that George could influence polling in favour of the ruling government. They had requested for him to be transferred out to ensure a free and fair bypoll. Taking cognisance of the petition, the EC transferred George out of the post.
It may be recalled that O Panneerselvam after rebelling against Sasikala had asked the governor to transfer the top cop out but the DG had advised against it. Geroge had also refused to evacuate AIADMK MLAs herded in a resort despite an order from O Pannerselvam, who was then the acting chief minister.
