Centre Slashes Prices On LPG Domestic Gas Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls
Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls, the Centre has slashed the price of domestic LPG gas cylinder by Rs 100. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the news on Friday on the occasion of Women's Day.
On X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Today, on Women's Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs. 100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti.

By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring 'Ease of Living' for them."
The big announcement comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections which are likely to be held in April and May.
More importantly, the Centre has slashed before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect as the Election Commission is expected to announce the dates in the next one week.
Last year, the NDA government slashed the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder by Rs 200 and it was announced on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. However, up until August 2023, the LPG cylinder in the national capital remained priced at Rs 1,103. Following the price reduction, it decreased to Rs 903.
For beneficiaries in the PM Ujjwala scheme, last year's reduced rate was set at Rs 703. In March 2023, the government expanded a subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder under the PM Ujjwala scheme.
Responding to the development, NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule said, "I am not surprised at all. Look at the timing. They have been in power for the last 9 years. Why didn't they think of this earlier? Just when the election, I mean it will probably be announced in the next 5 or 6 days, "yeh aur ek jumla hai"...In our government, the cylinder was Rs 430. Why don't they match it?.."
