Central Railway Sets Record with Rs 300 Cr in Fines for 2023-24
In a remarkable achievement for the Central Railway (CR), the zone has reported a significant revenue of Rs 300 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24, stemming from fines collected due to ticketless travel and unbooked luggage. This figure not only sets a new high among all zones of the national transporter but also exceeds the set revenue target of Rs.265.97 crore by 12.80 percent. Additionally, CR surpassed its case target, handling 46.26 lakh instances against the anticipated 42.63 lakh cases, marking an 8.38 percent increase.

The Mumbai division of CR led the charge, amassing Rs.115.29 crore from 20.56 lakh cases of ticketless or irregular travel and unbooked luggage. The Bhusaval division followed with earnings of Rs.66.33 crore from 8.34 lakh cases. Other divisions also contributed significantly: Nagpur division with Rs.34.52 crore from 5.70 lakh cases, Solapur division with Rs.34.74 crore from 5.44 lakh cases, Pune division with Rs.28.15 crore from 3.74 lakh cases, and the headquarters chipping in with Rs.20.96 crore from 2.47 lakh cases.
Top Performers in Ticket Checking
Central Railway's success in this domain is also attributed to the exceptional performance of its ticket checking staff. Notably, 22 ticket checking personnel, including two women ticket examiners, individually contributed more than Rs1 crore to ticket checking earnings. Travelling Ticket Inspector Sunil Nainani stood out by generating Rs.1.92 crore in revenue from 20,117 cases, making him the top earner among his peers. He was closely followed by Chief Ticket Inspector M M Shinde with Rs.1.59 crore from 18,223 cases and Travelling Ticket Inspector Dharmendra Kumar with Rs.1.52 crore from 17,641 cases.
This financial accomplishment underscores Central Railway's commitment to enforcing travel regulations and ensuring compliance among passengers. The substantial increase in revenue from fines highlights the effectiveness of CR's monitoring and enforcement strategies, positioning it as a leader among its counterparts in terms of both case handling and revenue generation.
