Can ChatGPT Create Aadhaar Cards & PAN Cards? Netizens Raise Concerns Over Fake ID Cards

In what could be considered as a major security concern, users on social media have created Aadhaar and PAN Card images using ChatGPT and sharing it on social media sites. Shockingly, the AI-generated images, which appeared to match real individuals, have raised concerns about the risks posed by OpenAI's tool.

Posts featuring photorealistic fake Aadhaar cards made with GPT-4o started circulating online. One user questioned, "The interesting thing is, where did it get the Aadhaar photos data for training?" The accuracy of facial details in these images fueled further debate, with users expressing mixed opinions about the claims.

ChatGPT has built-in safeguards preventing the generation of photorealistic images of children, minor public figures, and explicit or harmful content. Additionally, some users have reported that ChatGPT outright refused to generate Aadhaar card images, instead directing them to the official UIDAI website for updates.

A user on X dismissed the controversy, stating, "This is totally fake. ChatGPT doesn't generate Aadhaar cards or any other IDs. It doesn't even have access to personal data or official documents. Someone probably made this just to stir up controversy."

OpenAI acknowledged the evolving risks associated with GPT-4o's image generation in its system card documentation.

"Unlike DALL·E, which operates as a diffusion model, 4o image generation is an autoregressive model natively embedded within ChatGPT. This fundamental difference introduces several new capabilities that are distinct from previous generative models, and that pose new risks... These capabilities, alone and in new combinations, have the potential to create risks across a number of areas, in ways that previous models could not." the company stated.
