BSP To Contest All 70 Delhi Assembly Seats: First Candidate List Expected By Mid-January
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced its plans to contest all 70 seats in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, slated for February.
The party's first list of candidates is expected to be released by mid-January, as preparations intensify for what promises to be a crucial political battle.

Zone-Wise Strategy for Candidate Selection
To ensure a thorough candidate-selection process, the BSP has divided Delhi into five zones. Each zone has been assigned a coordinator tasked with finalizing candidate recommendations based on grassroots-level meetings and discussions.
- Centralized Decision-Making: Recommendations from zone coordinators will be sent to BSP chief Mayawati, who will make the final decision on candidates.
- Timeline for Final List: The first list is likely to be released by January 15, with further announcements expected shortly after.
Campaign Launch and Strategy
The BSP is set to officially launch its campaign on January 5, focusing on addressing key local issues and engaging voters at the ground level. Mayawati and other senior leaders are expected to lead the campaign through rallies and public meetings, guided by the zonal coordinators.
BSP's Performance in Previous Delhi Elections
The BSP has contested all 70 seats in Delhi since 2008 (except in 2003, when it fielded candidates in 40 constituencies). However, the party's performance has varied significantly:
- 2020: Secured 0.71% vote share, no seats won.
- 2015: Secured 1.13% vote share, no seats won.
- 2013: Secured 5.35% vote share, no seats won.
- 2008: Secured 14.05% vote share, winning two seats.
- 2003: Secured 5.76% vote share, no seats won.
Despite its limited success in recent elections, the BSP is aiming to rebuild its presence in the capital by focusing on grassroots issues and community engagement.
A Challenging Electoral Landscape
The Delhi Assembly elections are shaping up to be a two-way contest between:
- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP): The ruling party since 2015, led by Chief Minister Atishi and party convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): The primary opposition party, seeking to regain control of Delhi.
Both parties have already intensified their campaigns, with AAP releasing its candidate list and gearing up for high-profile contests in key constituencies.
With a renewed focus and strategic planning, the BSP hopes to make a significant impact in the Delhi Assembly elections. The party's emphasis on grassroots outreach and its commitment to contest all 70 seats signal its determination to regain a foothold in Delhi's political landscape.
