As the situation worsened, local youth stepped in to assist the soldiers, pulling them to safety with the help of ropes, tubes, and makeshift boats. Heavy Rains Cause Havoc

The Jammu region has witnessed its heaviest rainfall in decades, with over 360 mm recorded in less than 38 hours. Rivers like the Chenab, Tawi, and Jhelum have crossed danger marks, triggering flash floods and landslides. More than 10,000 people have been evacuated, while bridges, homes, and roads have suffered severe damage.

The death toll has climbed to 36, most of them victims of a landslide along the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route. Though water levels are now showing early signs of receding, the destruction caused remains massive.
