Bomb Threats Disrupt Over 90 Flights in India
A surge of bomb threats targeting Indian airlines has created chaos, affecting over 90 flights in recent days. On October 20, six flights each from IndiGo, Vistara, and Akasa Air received fresh threats, including international routes.
IndiGo confirmed a bomb threat for flight 6E 58 from Jeddah to Mumbai and several others, emphasizing their commitment to passenger safety. Akasa Air reported threats on six of its flights, activating their Emergency Response team to handle the situation and inform regulatory authorities. Vistara also reported security threats on six flights, including routes to Frankfurt and Singapore.
This alarming trend follows more than 30 flights receiving threats over the weekend, predominantly through social media, prompting intense scrutiny from security agencies. One incident involved a bomb threat note found in an aircraft lavatory.
In response to these incidents, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) convened a meeting with airline representatives to discuss security measures. The civil aviation ministry plans to enforce strict regulations against hoax threats, including adding offenders to a no-fly list. As the situation develops, the safety of passengers remains a top priority amid ongoing investigations into these threats.
