BJP Questions Sunita Kejriwal's Role as Delhi CM in AAP's Leadership
New Delhi, Apr 1 - In a recent development that has stirred the political landscape of the capital, BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj raised questions about the role of Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. During a press conference, Swaraj inquired if Sunita Kejriwal was now officially assuming the duties of the chief minister. This query comes in light of Sunita Kejriwal's recent digital briefings, which bore a striking resemblance to the official communications typically delivered by the Chief Minister.

The BJP secretary and candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat also criticized the opposition INDIA bloc's rally at Ramlila ground, labeling it a failure and accusing it of misleading the public on corruption issues. The AAP's chief spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, responded to these allegations by highlighting the substantial public support for Kejriwal, suggesting that the BJP is intimidated by this backing.
The controversy stems from Sunita Kejriwal's increased visibility following Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged liquor scam. Bansuri Swaraj pointed out that several AAP leaders, including former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, have been denied bail in this case, raising further questions about the party's legal challenges.
Furthermore, Swaraj accused Arvind Kejriwal of evading nine summonses from the Enforcement Directorate until the announcement of elections, suggesting a strategic move to garner sympathy post-arrest. She also commented on the lack of public attendance at Rahul Gandhi's speech during the INDIA bloc rally, implying a lack of support for the coalition.
On the other hand, AAP's Kakkar defended the unity and purpose of the INDIA bloc against what she described as "rampant dictatorship." She accused the BJP of operating an "Extortion Department" and criticized their tendency to absolve corrupt leaders upon their joining the party. Kakkar also took a jab at Bansuri Swaraj for her stance on corruption, given her professional background as a lawyer defending controversial figures.
The exchange between Swaraj and Kakkar underscores the heated political rivalry in Delhi, with both sides standing firm on their positions. As accusations fly and defenses are mounted, the citizens of Delhi are left to navigate through these complex political narratives.
