BJP Alleges MVA Leaders Discussed Bitcoin Transactions to Influence Maharashtra Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released alleged voice recordings of Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole and NCP SP leader Supriya Sule. The BJP claims these recordings suggest attempts to use Bitcoins to influence the Maharashtra elections, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of unethical conduct and demanded explanations from Congress and Sule.

Before the BJP's press conference, Supriya Sule addressed the issue on X, criticising the spread of misinformation aimed at misleading voters. She stated, "We have filed a criminal complaint to the ECI & the Cybercrime Department against the fake allegations made of bitcoin misappropriation. The intent and mala fide actors behind it are amply evident, condemn-worthy that such practices are taking place in a healthy democracy guided by the Constitution of India."
Bitcoin Allegations and Political Reactions
Trivedi shared audio clips allegedly featuring conversations about Bitcoin transactions intended for election funding. He claimed these discussions indicate that MVA anticipates losing in the elections. One leader reportedly assured an operator that any inquiries would be addressed once their government was established. The BJP also alleged involvement of a former IPS officer in these conversations.
Trivedi described these comments as "very serious and dangerous" and urged Sule to provide a detailed response, including confirming if it was her voice in the recordings. He questioned whether opposition leaders were involved in Bitcoin transactions and if such transactions were illegal. Trivedi further alleged that when MVA governed Maharashtra, its home minister was accused by the police commissioner of collecting Rs 100 crore monthly.
Opposition's Counter-Accusations
Earlier, opposition parties accused BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde of participating in a cash-for-votes scandal, citing a video as evidence. Tawde and the BJP dismissed these allegations as baseless. Trivedi also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning whether foreign funds supported his initiatives like Mohabbat ki dukan.
The BJP's accusations have intensified political tensions in Maharashtra ahead of elections. The party insists that Congress has not used digital transactions for public welfare but rather for corrupt activities. Trivedi asserted that these revelations have exposed the opposition's true nature.
This controversy highlights ongoing political rivalries and raises questions about election integrity in Maharashtra. As both sides exchange allegations, voters are left to discern fact from fiction amidst these claims.
