BJP Alleges Lavish Spending by Kejriwal on Flagstaff Road Bungalow Items, Atishi Responds

The BJP has accused the AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal of spending crores on luxury items, including a missing high-tech toilet seat, at the 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow. This residence was used by Kejriwal for over nine years during his tenure as Delhi's chief minister. After resigning, Kejriwal vacated the bungalow earlier this month.

No immediate response came from the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government regarding the inventory shared by the BJP. The bungalow is now allotted to Kejriwal's successor, Atishi, who has not yet moved in. Atishi addressed the allegations in a press conference, stating that the BJP could allocate the house to any of its leaders. She emphasised that their focus remains on serving Delhi's people, even if it means working from the streets.

Allegations of Extravagance

Amit Malviya, head of BJP's national IT department, posted on X about the list of gadgets installed in what he referred to as Kejriwal's "Sheeshmahal." He highlighted that fully automatic TOTO smart toilet seats with features like heated seats and wireless remote controls were missing. Malviya claimed each toilet seat cost between Rs 10-12 lakh.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva criticised the use of public funds for such luxury under the guise of comfort. He stated that while modern amenities are necessary for a chief minister's residence, extravagance is unacceptable. The BJP had previously campaigned against Kejriwal, alleging irregularities in the reconstruction of the bungalow and criticising its expensive interiors.

A probe is already ongoing into alleged rule violations during the bungalow's reconstruction. The BJP has dubbed it "Sheeshmahal" due to its costly furnishings and household items. The controversy continues to unfold as both parties exchange accusations over public spending and governance priorities.
