BJP Reveals Candidate List for UP Lok Sabha Polls, Drops Varun Gandhi
In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, introducing 13 new faces and making notable changes to its lineup. Among the fresh candidates is actor Arun Govil, famed for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic TV serial Ramayan, who will contest from Meerut. This move comes as part of the party's strategy to secure its position in 63 out of the state's 80 Lok Sabha seats.

Varun Gandhi, a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) who has been openly critical of the party on various issues including employment and health, has been replaced by state minister Jitin Prasada for the Pilibhit constituency. However, Varun's mother, Maneka Gandhi, retains her spot and will be contesting from Sultanpur.
The party has also made strategic replacements in other constituencies. For Ghaziabad, MLA Atul Garg has been chosen over the sitting MP and Union minister Gen V.K. Singh (retd.), who had earlier expressed his decision not to contest in the elections. Ramesh Awasthi will now represent Kanpur, taking over from Satyadev Pachauri who opted out of the race.
Other candidates introduced by the BJP include Raghav Lakhanpal for Saharanpur, Sarvesh Singh for Moradabad, Satish Gautam for Aligarh, Anoop Valmiki for Hathras-SC, Durvijay Singh Shakya for Budaun, Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar for Bareilly, Rajrani Rawat for Barabanki-SC, and Arvind Gond for Bahraich-SC. This reshuffling has led to several sitting MPs being denied tickets for re-election.
Raghav Lakhanpal and Sarvesh Singh are among those making a comeback, having previously served as MPs but lost in the 2019 elections. Atul Garg and Anoop Valmiki bring their experience as sitting MLAs and ministers in the Uttar Pradesh government to their respective contests.
The party's decision to replace certain incumbents like Santosh Gangwar (Bareilly), Sanghamitra Maurya (Budaun), and others underscores its intent to refresh its candidate list with new faces and strategies aimed at strengthening its electoral prospects.
Notably absent from this round of announcements is the candidate for Raebareli, a key constituency that remains under speculation. The first list had already set a high bar with prominent names such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow among others.
New entrants like Saket Mishra from Shrawasti and Kripa Shankar Singh from Jaunpur reflect the party's efforts to infuse fresh energy and perspectives into its campaign. These changes come amidst a dynamic political landscape in Uttar Pradesh, with the BJP aiming to consolidate its position ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The announcement was made by UP BJP co-media in-charge Abhay Pratap Singh, marking a crucial phase in the party's election strategy as it gears up to face its rivals on the electoral battlefield. With these strategic nominations and replacements, the BJP is positioning itself for a robust campaign aimed at maximizing its electoral success in Uttar Pradesh.
