Bengal Coal Scam: Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee's Wife Stopped From Flying To Dubai

Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira was allegedly stopped from boarding a flight to Dubai at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

Rujira reached the airport with her two children around 7 am to board a flight to Dubai, UAE. But she was stopped by immigration authorities citing a lookout circular by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

"Though not required to intimate, still to express her bonafide, Rujira Banerjee, wife of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee informed ED through email of her upcoming visit to Dubia from June 5 to June 13 with her children. There was no response, communication from ED objecting to such a visit which they could not have in view of the orders of the Supreme Court," lawyer of Rujira Banerjee told reporters.

Rujira's lawyer also claimed thatshe had informed the ED, providing her travel plan details and a copy of her tickets a few days back.

"Then, there was no response, but now she was stopped. She has now returned home. We are mulling legal options," he said.

"Today in gross violation of the Supreme Court's orders, she was stopped at immigration along with her minor kids and informed that she cannot travel abroad. She was also handed over a copy of summon directing her to appear before the ED office in Kolkata on June 8. We will be moving to court as it has been a violation of SC order," he said.

Lok Sabha MP and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, wife Rujira and her sister Gambhir have been questioned by ED and CBI in connection with this case in the the Coal pilferage scam.

The central agencies alleged that illegally mined coal, worth several thousand crores of rupees, has been sold in the black market over several years by a racket operating in the western parts of Bengal where the Eastern Coalfields Limited runs several mines.
