Assam Shocker: 63-year-old woman stripped naked, beheaded by mob

Guwahati, July 21: An elderly woman has been stripped naked and was beheaded by a mob. The horrible incident took place in a village in Assam.

Nearly 200 people in Bhimajuli village of Assam's Sonitpur district on Monday, July 20 dragged the woman out of her house and tortured her to death.

Police arrested seven people including the main accused who has been identified as Anima Ronghanti. 35-year-old Ronghanti, a self-proclaimed god, asked villagers to assemble in a temple.

She later told everyone that 63-year-old Orang, an tribal woman and mother of five, was a witch and she brought bad luck to the village.

Speaking about the incident, police official was quoted as saying, "Following this, the mob rushed to Orang's house and dragged her out, took her to a nearby stream, almost stripped her naked and beheaded her in broad daylight."

Police arrested Ronghanti and her husband and their children. The incident occurred at a time when statement government in Assam is contemplating an anti-witch-hunt law in the state.
