Fraunhofer Office India Director Anandi Iyer Awarded Federal Cross of Merit by German Government
Anandi Iyer, the esteemed director of the Fraunhofer Office in India, has been awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz (Federal Cross of Merit) by the German government. This accolade is in recognition of her significant contributions to fostering Indo-German relations over the past 25 years. The announcement was made by the German Embassy in India, highlighting Iyer's pivotal role in enhancing collaboration between the two nations, especially in the realms of science and technology.

With a tenure exceeding 16 years at the Fraunhofer Office in India, Iyer has been instrumental in developing strong ties and partnerships between India and Europe. Her efforts have been particularly noteworthy in areas such as smart cities, renewable energy, smart manufacturing, and digitalisation. These contributions are further underscored by her involvement in the Indo-German Expert Group on Digitalisation, an initiative launched by the heads of government of both countries.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Indo-German Science and Technology Cooperation, making the timing of this award particularly significant. Iyer's work has not only played a crucial role in strengthening the partnership between India and Germany but has also led to substantial advancements in technology and innovation. Furthermore, her commitment to empowering women in science and technology sectors stands as a beacon of inspiration.
Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India, expressed his admiration for Iyer's dedication and achievements. "Anandi Iyer's exemplary work has not only strengthened the Indo-German relationship but has also paved the way for significant advancements in technology and innovation between the two countries. Her dedication to empowering women in science and technology is truly inspiring. It is an honour to present her with the Bundesverdienstkreuz, acknowledging her invaluable contributions and relentless spirit," Ackermann was quoted as saying.
